Fourteen years in disability support, eight of them in housing
Suman started as a support worker in Melbourne's west in 2012 and has worked in supported accommodation ever since. He now manages placements across six Caring Buddy homes in Wyndham, which means he is usually the first person a family meets and the one who stays with them afterwards.
His approach is unfashionably practical. Before anyone signs anything he wants to know what the participant's week actually looks like — who they eat with, when they sleep, what sets a bad day off — and he builds the roster around that rather than the other way round.
Suman has attended more than two hundred plan reviews with participants and families, and he prepares for every one. He speaks Nepali, Hindi and English.
